Identification of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex Spoligotype Using Microarrays

The assay allows rapid, economic and standardized spoligotyping of Mycobacterium (M.), tuberculosis complex (MTC) organisms, i.e., M. tuberculosis and others, including M. bovis, M. caprae and M. africanum.

It detects the presence or absence of 43 specific DNA spacer sequences in the direct repeat (DR) genomic region. The spoligotyping pattern is characteristic of a particular evolutionary lineage and can be used for epidemiological tracing.
