S.agaType AS-1 Kit

The S.agaType AS-1 Kit allows DNA-based detection of resistance genes and pathogenicity markers of Streptococcus agalactiae and assignment of unknown S. agalactiae isolates to known strains.
S. agalactiae, also known as group B streptococcus (GBS), commonly colonises the urogenital tract, and it is an important cause for bacterial septicaemia, meningitis and pneumonia in new-borns.
The present kit targets virulence-associated markers and resistance genes previously observed in GBS. It allows assignment of unknown S. agalactiae isolates to known strains. The design and validation procedures were described in a recent publication.
For typing purposes, a set of 11 markers (bac, alp, pil1 locus, pepS8, fbsB, capsule locus, hylB, abiG-I/-II plus Q8DZ34, pil2 locus, nss plus srr plus rogB2, and rgfC/A/D/B) was defined that provides a framework for splitting S. agalactiae isolates into strains that cluster according to MLST-defined clonal complexes. This is valuable for research and for epidemiological / public health applications.

Please send either a clonal culture (e.g., suitable agar plate, stab culture or swab) or a high quality DNA preparation into our lab. We do the genotyping and you get a result file in electronic form. On request, we will perform a phenotypical characterization of antibiotic susceptibility and/or species identification by a VITEK-2 System (bioMÃ©rieux Deutschland GmbH).
