Surveillance and typing of influenza A samples is of high medical relevance. Typing data are crucial for the selection of strains covered by seasonal influenza vaccinations and might help tracing chains of transmissions for epidemiological and infection control purposes.

The Influenza A Genotyping Kit is an Array Hybridisation Kit for the detection of Influenza A virus as well as for its  H- and N-subtyping. The assay is based on the hybridisation of labelled amplicons from H and N reverse transcriptase-PCRs using consensus primer pairs. Amplicons then are hybridized to subtype-specific probes on microtiterstripe-mounted DNA-microarrays allowing simultaneous testing of eight up to 96 samples. It can be used on patient samples such as nasopharyngeal swabs or aspirates as well as on egg or cell cultures. In addition to all currently known H- and N-types the test identifies the recent "swine flu“ (or "Mexican variant“ of H1N1) virus and highly pathogenic H5N1 strains in a single experiment within 24 hours.

It combines the probes from previous arrays for H- (item number 201009010) and N-typing (item number 201008981) of Influenza A with an algorithm for automatic data interpretation of raw data and assignment to H and N subtypes.
